Hello Jell-o!!

I was looking for chocolate chips, then my eyes hit the Jell-o. When's the last time I had even tasted this crazy, jiggling dessert? I'm not a fan of the fruit-flavored  version, but you can not beat a 5-minute instant pudding mix! I picked up lemon and chocolate...And I knew I wanted a parfait of some kind.

For the lemon, I layered the pudding with homemade whipped cream, slivered almonds, blueberries and crumbled graham crackers. For the chocolate, it's graham crumbs, whipped cream and mini chocolate chips. I am not a food stylist...

Putting it in a Mason jar just adds to the retro charm. But as I was browsing the Internet for vintage adds, I was reminded of the savory side of Jell-o. Leftover salmon, broccoli or cheese? Why not suspend it in gravity with celery-flavored Jell-o?
I just couldn't do it..
I never realized the copper molds I always see in antique stores could be used for Jello. I assumed they were just for cake.

But the coolest thing I found was this pendant light made from a mold. Love it!!

Pillow curls... Set it and forget it;)

I have curly hair, but not the curls of glamour girls or the golden age of Hollywood. To achieve the soft rolls of the '40s, I found pillow rollers. They are so inexpensive! You can find them at Target or WalMart, and I would get 2 packages. You don't want to run to the store with a half-done hair-do!

If you have curly or frizzy hair, straighten your hair and protect with a thermal protectant. I love the smell of Paul Mitchell's Hot off the Press. It actually controls frizz, too!

Don't get neurotic about making hair perfectly straight, you are curling it after all. But you do want smooth hair since you are sleeping in the pillow curls.

Once hair is straight, you will need a bowl of tap water, or do what I did, and stand by the sink! Start at the top of your head, and pull .5 inch sections. Dip your fingers in water and smooth over the strand you are working with.  You don't want to drench it, just dampen. A small spray bottle would work too, but I don't have one. Fingers are free! Starting at the end of your hair, carefully roll the ends in, making sure they don't stick out willy-nilly. If they do, you will have weird crimped edges. Twist the wire portions until the rolls look like little crab rangoon.

Once your whole head is finished, spray it with hairspray. A satin scarf over top not only adds to the retro feel of this style, it will keep the frizz away while you dream.

The heat from your head sets the curl, so no curling iron required! When you are ready to style, simply brush and smooth until you achieve the desired shape.
You will have Shirley Temple-like tight curls. So brush out and spray until your heart's content. Accessorize if you want with a flower or scarf🎀
